"If we hope to create a non-violent world where respect and kindness replace fear and hatred, we must begin with how we treat each other at the begining of life. For that is where our deepest patterns are set. From these roots grow fear and alienation or love and trust."

Natural Living

Young Arah with a chicken
I like to say that when making choices for my family, how we do things, how we live etc.  I try to do it as close to Gods design as possible (and feasible).  This means that we strive for 'the natural' as much as possible.
Nursing my babies till they wean, relying on very few baby gadgets, using cloth diapers and doing EC.  Not vaxing and using natural remedies, all in an effort to keep our immune systems healthy and intact, allowing them to work in the way God designed them to, knowing that we can seek medical care if needed, and thankful that it is an option.  It means eating as many whole foods as possible. Trying to avoid as many artificial ingredients as possible.  Making most of our own cleaning products.  Staying away from chemicals.  I always say that in a perfect world we would also be sugar free and TV free (well, how about free from all 'screens' including video games) but that isn't feasible for us.  I love my ice cream and though we try to limit our TV watching, it definitely comes in handy at times (and we really don't want to go without our Fox news, Discovery, Natural Geographic and the few mindless shows that dh and I like to watch as we zone out after a hectic day  . . . while also eating our ice cream, LOL).

Kids gathering herbs
I wish I could afford to eat completely natural, local, organic foods, I wish I had time to make everything from scratch (all our pastas, crackers, granola, etc.) but sometimes things aren't possible, so we can only do the best we can.  Hopefully one day we will have the farm we desire so we can raise much of our own food.  Right now we do the best we can with whatever we can grow in our rocky, mountain top soil (which isn't much) whatever we can pick and forage (lots of berries for jelly, and lots of wild herbs) and whatever we can raise on 1 1/2 acres where we are not allowed livestock (we have chickens for eggs, hopefully someday soon we can find time to get some meat chickens, maybe raise a pig one summer (shhhh), and get some bees).

I was going to post links to my blog posts related to Natural Living . . . and then I realized that MOST of them are related to Natural Living, LOL!!
